Summer at Lake Tahoe

What makes Lake Tahoe the #1 Summer destination for fun? That’s easy: EVERYTHING! Tahoe has everything you want for a fabulous and fun-filled Summer by land, water, or even air!

Walking is a fantastic way to see Tahoe’s towns. Shoppers will find walking to be an ideal way to get around in the newly remodeled villages at Northstar and Heavenly. Others will enjoy a jaunt through Historic Downtown Truckee or Tahoe City, or through the casino district in South Lake.

Hikers will find hundreds of miles of trails to explore ranging from flat easy walks to multi-day treks. For awe-inspiring views of the Lake from every vantage check out the Tahoe Rim Trail. The TRT meanders along ridge-tops, through forests and meadows for 165 miles, circumnavigating the Lake. Or check in at any local outdoor shop to find out about other great hikes in the area.

To get similar panoramic lake and mountain views the easy way, take a ride on the scenic gondola at Heavenly in South Lake. Dining, hiking and other activities await you at the top! In North Tahoe Squaw Valley USA and Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort both offer gondola rides with activities and dining on the mountain.

Biking is another fabulous way to enjoy the Tahoe Area. Tahoe’s bike shops rent bikes of every sort, whether you prefer riding classic single-track trails or our many miles of paved paths. West Shore Sports has a great selection of bikes ranging from comfortable “bike path” cruisers to single-track chargers as well as children’s bikes, trailers and trail-a-bikes for the little ones. Their location at Homewood is a great starting point for a cruise on the West Shore bike path or their knowledgeable staff can set you up with the perfect trail for mountain biking.

The Tahoe Area’s many golf courses will challenge and enthrall golfers of all abilities with beautiful courses, scenic views and the extra distance on drives that our thin, high-altitude air affords. Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort and the Resort at Squaw Creek both have beautiful courses or you can take the scenic drive North to the famous Whitehawk Ranch course in the Mohawk Valley.

Water lovers will find a plethora of exciting ways to fill their days. For an ideal North Tahoe afternoon, grab a slice of the best pizza around at Front Street Station in Tahoe City and then harness the winds on-board Tahoe Sailing Charter’s 50 ft. sailing yacht the “Tahoe Cruz” for a memorable cruise on the Lake. In South Lake, Woodwind Cruises offers a variety of scenic cruises featuring Tahoe sightseeing at its finest!

Jack up the excitement factor even higher with a morning waterskiing or wakeboarding session with the experts at the High Sierra Water Ski School with locations in Tahoe City and Homewood.
